Colourworks

Colour intrigues me. I see it as a kind of wilderness, both beautiful and dangerous. Like the sea, colour is fluid and fugitive, and shifts around depending on light and context. I identify with the uncertainty and visceral impact of colour.

I use the muscular and fine qualities of porcelain with the luminous transparency of glaze to make colour studies of one, two, or more pieces that stack or sit side by side. I look at proportion, intensity, tonal variation and the interplay between colours. Influenced by the repeat production of industry, I also make colour installations from an ocean of 1,000 pieces.
